Cynthia Rubin Brown

Cynthia Rubin Brown, PsyD, is a Psychotherapist and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT29762) who has seen individuals, couples and families in Santa Monica and the Los Angeles area since 1984.

Dr. Brown guides people through complex psychological and relational life issues occurring during personal crisis, life change and transition, and for those who suffer with debilitating states of mind and mood. Her expertise includes all phases of the healing process from crisis or onset of illness or disability, through stability, recovery, and ongoing health maintenance. She also addresses the impact that social and relational intolerance has on people dealing with issues of mental and physical illness, sexual orientation, gender identity, cultural or racial differences, and those who experience themselves as “different or separate” from mainstream acceptance.

Dr. Brown has worked in private practice in Santa Monica (since 1992), and in the psychiatric residential treatment facility Bridges to Recovery (since 2007) as primary psychotherapist and manager of patient care. She sees adults, couples, and families with issues that include trauma, depression, anxiety, bipolar, or thought disorders, self-disorders and personality vulnerabilities. Dr. Brown also consults with family members who seek guidance about the best care-strategies for their loved one in psychological recovery.

Of special interest is Dr. Brown’s ongoing study and practice of various disciplines of meditation, including mindfulness practices, which she began in the early 1970's. These disciplines and knowledge of similar restorative and integrative approaches to health inform her work as a psychotherapist.
